I have set up the indexing service to run at 1am and to rerun every 24 hours. It does not run.

Settings:

Service Rebuild Start Hour: 1
Service Rebuild Frequency hrs: 24

I set up the service to send out an email which I am not receiving.

I modified the settings in the Index management tool under windows service and configuration

I even checked the file DocumentIndex.txt in the index directory and the index has not been rebuilt since I last ran it manually the other day.

What can I do to get the service to rebuild the index at 1am every day?

The server is a Virtual Private Server running windows 2008 server. I even get the same result on my windows 7 box.

Mike

Can you enable logging in Configuration and give it a chance to run. Then in the index directory, after it has run there should be a file called Windows_Service.txt (I think thats the name, or something close). Please paste the content here

Thanks

I went into the Index Manager tool and on the windows service tab pressed "Trigger Index Now". the program closed so the index could be generated. Hours later, I see no evidence of any indexing. I also find no windows service txt file.

How do I verify that the windows service is actually indexing?

When you go to the Windows Service tab, are you sure the path in the textbox is correctly set?

Can you email me all .txt files from your index directory please, jim.wright @ keyoti.com

Thanks

Yes. The path in the text box of the Windows Service is showing the correct directory. I sent you all the text files from that directory.

I believe I have found the problem... I noticed in the index manager program a message saying, "windows service must be restarted for changes to take effect." I restarted the service to see if that has any effect on the indexing. I then checked the file, DocumentIndex.txt and indexing has started.

I ran the service manually yesterday:

05/05/2015 15:27 Service task (#0) started on index directory: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Production\Keyoti_SearchEngine_web_common\Keyoti_search_index
05/05/2015 15:27 Start hour is set for 1 in configuration.xml
05/05/2015 15:27 The first crawl/build should be performed after 572.407560416667 minutes
05/05/2015 15:27 Service trigger detected.
05/05/2015 15:27 Reimport started
05/05/2015 18:02 Reimport finished
05/05/2015 18:02 Optimize started
05/05/2015 18:03 Optimize finished
05/05/2015 18:03 Sent email log to it.web@rcda.org

As you can see it worked as expected. I also got the email log. What I didn't see is the service reimport the site at 1am as per the settings. I will wait to see if it reimports tonight.

I did not import that night as expected.

Reimport now occurs every day at 15:27 despite the configuration which is set to 1AM. The problem is that I triggered a manual import at 15:27 one afternoon and the configuration is set to reimport every 24 hours. It appears as though I need to manually start import at 1am to get it on the correct schedule. Or would a restart of the service trigger the return to 1am?

Ah good observation, yes sounds like a bug which we'll fix. But simple solution is to restart the service and not trigger a manual import, that way it will use the correct timing.

Thanks

I restarted the service and today I got the email which stated that reimporting is happening at 1am. Thanks for all the help.
