Add spell checker functionality and value into J2EE web applications.

RapidSpell Web Java provides (JSP, JSF, Servlet, Struts, GWT, HTML etc) developers and designers with a cross browser (and multi client platform) web control that requires no client installation, no special security settings and as much programmatic flexibility as you want. RapidSpell Web includes 2 interfaces, an inline (as you type) highlighter and a fast (no post back) dialog interface. 5 English dictionaries included and many high quality dictionaries for other languages are also available.

General Details
Light Blue Background

RapidSpell Web Java can be used by either importing 2 Javascripts onto your page (it will automatically set itself up) or through JSP tags.

RapidSpell Web Java can add spell checking to any HTML text box component as well as 3rd Party text components such as HtmlArea and FCKEditor.

Dialog spell checking

The RapidSpell Web Java dialog spell checking user interface provides all the common features such as , add (to user dictionary), change, ignore, undo, and smart suggestions. The user dictionary is located on the application server and can be per user and also DB or cookie based.

Supports customizable main dictionaries (through Dict Manager tool) and user dictionaries (either one dictionary for all users or separate user dictionaries) located on the server.

With full API access, RapidSpell Web Java allows customizations to be made to behavior such as working with user dictionaries in a database format instead of the default text file format, altering the parser to check for offensive language or changing the way words are identified and their corresponding suggestions.

In addition, developers can use the core spell checker functionality through the RapidSpellChecker class, allowing usage without the GUI in console and server applications for example.

Free minor version updates (eg. 4.0 to 4.1) are included with a purchased license, as is email technical support.

RapidSpell Web Java complies with Section 508 and W3C AA. Please view the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) which outlines the specific accessibility-related features.

Technical
Light Blue Background

RapidSpell Web Java supports all major browsers and requires only HTML and JS to enable spell checking for your J2EE applications.

All dictionaries (main and user's) are stored on the server, yet the user's spell checking experience is not hampered by any post-backs to the server, because there are none. User dictionaries can be stored on a database (examples provided).

Works without session variables, making it possible to use RapidSpell Web with server clusters/farms. The single request architecture keeps server load down, and is possible through our high performance suggestions algorithm.

RapidSpell Web Java was designed to JDK 1.2.2+ specification and supports legacy browsers, Internet Explorer 5+, Firefox 1, Opera, and Safari on the PC and Mac.

RapidSpell Web Java is expected to work with all J2EE servers, it has been tested in, and works correctly with;

  • BEA WebLogic Server
  • IBM WebSphere
  • Sun ONE Application Server
  • Jakarta Tomcat
